How It Started

For the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, held in 2021, Google added six sports-themed variants to Chrome’s Dinosaur Game. Collecting an Olympic torch during the standard run activated an event.

What It Did

Swimming put goggles on the T-Rex and moved it into a pool lane, where players timed dives beneath buoys. It joined Hurdling, Surfing, Equestrian, Gymnastics, and Skateboarding in the Olympic set.

A collision ended the run with the same gold-medal animation used by the other Olympic events.

Swimming reversed the visible direction of the runner’s main action. Players timed downward dives beneath buoys instead of upward jumps over obstacles.
