The Original Version

How It Started

Chrome’s original Dinosaur Game appears on the browser’s “No Internet” page and starts when you press Space. You can also open it directly at chrome://dino while online.

What It Did

The classic 2D version is drawn in plain black-and-white pixels. Your T-Rex runs by itself, and you decide when to jump over cacti and duck under pterodactyls as the game slowly speeds up. The simple look fits right in with the plain “No Internet” error page where it lives.

Impact and Reach

The original runner inspired fan projects and merchandise beyond Chrome. This 3D adaptation is one example of how its running and obstacle-dodging mechanics have been reinterpreted.

What’s Enhanced Here

Priler’s fan-made dino3d project puts the camera behind the dinosaur in a 3D desert. This page builds on his open-source adaptation of Chrome’s jump-and-duck runner.

The Enhanced Experience

What’s Different Here

The camera moves from a side view to a position behind the T-Rex. Jumping and ducking remain the main controls, but perspective changes how you judge the distance to approaching obstacles.

The Easter Egg Experience

Click or tap the dinosaur to start the run. The camera follows just behind the T-Rex as cacti and pterodactyls approach from the distance. Watch how quickly each obstacle gets closer as you time a jump or duck.

How to Try It

  1. Click or tap the dinosaur to start. On a keyboard, you can also press Space or Enter.
  2. On a computer, press Space or the Up arrow to jump.
  3. Press the Down arrow or Ctrl to duck.
  4. On a touchscreen, tap the top half of the screen to jump and the bottom half to duck.
  5. Dodge the cacti and pterodactyls as the run gets faster.
  6. After a crash, press Space or click the restart icon to begin another run.

Priler (Abraham Tugalov) created dino3d as an open-source fan project. The 3D setting and camera come from that adaptation; this is not an official Google 3D edition.

Final Thoughts

The controls will be familiar if you have played Chrome Dino, but the view changes how you read the course. With the camera behind the T-Rex, you judge each obstacle by how far away it is and how quickly it approaches.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the Chrome Dinosaur Game 3D?

Chrome Dinosaur Game 3D is a fan-made version of the classic offline runner, built from Priler’s dino3d project. The camera sits just behind the T-Rex, and you guide it through a blocky 3D desert from there.

What is the Chrome Dinosaur Game?

The Chrome Dinosaur Game is Google’s official offline runner built into Chrome. It first appeared in 2014 on the No Internet page, where a small pixel T-Rex waited for players to press Space and run.

The game is also known as T-Rex Runner or the chrome://dino game. You jump over cacti, duck under pterodactyls, and keep going until one obstacle finally catches the dinosaur.
