Try the Easter Egg
The Original Easter Egg
How It Started
For the 25th anniversary of Friends, Google added a recliner icon beside the Knowledge Panel shown when you searched for Chandler Bing.
What It Did
One click made the chair lean back. Then the chick and the duck hopped onto the page, chirping and clucking, as Chandler and Joey’s old pets paraded across the screen.
A second click sent the two birds away, and the recliner sat back up, ready for the next round.
Impact and Reach
The recliner refers to Chandler and Joey’s apartment, while the chick and duck recall their pets. Google combined both references in one interaction for the sitcom’s 25th anniversary.
Its Discontinuation
Google temporarily removed Chandler’s Easter egg after Matthew Perry died on October 28, 2023, then restored it in mid-November. It later left Search with the rest of the Friends anniversary set, which was gone by August 2025.
The Restored Experience
What’s Different Here
This restored page plays the same scene as the original: the recliner tips back, the birds arrive and keep chirping while they move around, and a second tap makes everything quiet again.
The Easter Egg Experience
Open the page and tap Chandler’s recliner. The chair leans back, and the chick and duck pop up from the bottom of the screen. The chick hops while the duck walks along the bottom; both keep moving and making noise until you tap the recliner again.
How to Try It
- Click the button above to open the restored Chandler page.
- Tap the recliner beside Chandler’s Knowledge Panel.
- Watch the chair tip back as the chick and duck hop into view.
- Listen for the chirps and clucks while the pair move across the screen.
- Tap the recliner again to send them off and return the chair upright.
The birds appear smaller on narrow screens and turn around at the left and right edges of the page.
Final Thoughts
Chandler’s recliner becomes a switch for two familiar visitors from his apartment.
